Race and My Community Gerald Hemphill ETH125 August 7th, 2010 The community that I call groundwork has a very interesting diversity of culture. This area, known as the furniture capital of the world attracts buyers and sellers of furniture from all over the world. For most locals here, the extra tourism from the market pile is welcomed, featurely for financial reasons. But there are a convey few locals that do not extend their hospitality due to certain pride issues. After all, my community is located in the deep south. Growing up in central normality Carolina, I flip seen many racial confrontations as soundly as unjust favoritism to a particular lavation. I was also fortunate enough to learn at a very young age that we, human beings, are not to be judged by each other, especially by race or ethnicity. My reboots were sure to surround me with kids of all races and to educate me on what is really important in life. Though Im very thankful and fortunate to collect been raised this way, it save could not save me from the inevitable situations that being an African American in the South would bring. Today, many members of my community look analogous me, but the majority of them do not. My community is a survive of Whites, Blacks, Asians, and Hispanics.

Though I am African American, I have various features that some may confuse with another race. My jet eyes, light skin, and straight hair often have people asking me if I have a White parent or if I am of Hispanic descent. To compound the questioning, the accompaniment is that I am the only person in my family with light-green eyes and straight hair. I do believe, however, that the features that I have allow me to be welcome with other various races. I have been told that I have a demeanor about(predicate) me that makes a lot of people comfortable around me. on that point are sections of my community that have ethnicity-based shopping centers.
