The Environment of Global Communication and Global Politics

Hopfe and Woodward take a geographic approach to their survey of religions, beginning first with Native American and African religions, then moving to religions originating in India (Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism and Sikhism), religions from China and japan (Chinese religions and Shinto), religions originating in the Middle East (Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam). Thus the major difference between the devil books from a content standpoint is the lack of a discourse of Christianity in Corduan's book, and the geographic perspective in Hopfe and Woodward's work. There is meaningful difference in the t unitarys of the books, however. Corduan adopts a conversational style where Hopfe and Woodward pee-pee a somewhat more formal style. This may be due to the different goals of the books. Corduan attempts to provide an understanding of other religions to Christians by which they can conduct meaningful conversations with members of other faiths, while Hopfe and Woodward seek to provide an understanding of major religions without a stated stroke for or against any one religion.

Hopfe and Woodward exhibit their own bias with the inclusion of the "Religion and Violence" arms that are found throughout the book. While this section has particular relevance in today's environment, the authors do not storm out other components, such as pacifism, economics or charity and examine each of those in light of the different religions that are considered.
