1.1 Key characteristics and concepts of:
Humanistic theory,
The humanistic theory was genuine by a group of American psychologists (Maslow, Rogers, May) in the 1940s and 1950s. Carl Rogers baffleed the person-centred approach based on the ideology that tout ensemble people have a desire to grow and distribute their full potential and fulfilment which Rogers termed as self-actualization. Humanistic counselling helps to en qualified the client to grow by providing them with six stub conditions which provide a climate conductive to growth and healing(p) change. The six
core conditions are:
* Therapist-client psychological contact
* Client vulnerability
* Client perception
* compulsory positive regard
* Empathic understanding
* Therapeutic Congruence or Genuineness
With flat positive regard, the counsellor accepts the client unconditionally
and is non-judgemental. The client is accordingly free to explore all their feelings and emotions
without the fear of beingness judged or rejected.
Empathic understanding refers to the counsellors accurately understanding the
thoughts, feelings and meanings the clients has and be able to perceive their world as
they perceive it.
Congruence is the therapist being genuine and authentic towards the client . The
therapist is unaffixed and transparent to the client.
If these core conditions are followed, the client will enabled to develop and grow in their
own unique way to bewilder the person they really are.
