Thanks for the wonderful cadence we had the other day visiting Marvelous Mud indicate at the Denver Art Museum. Looking at exclusively of those amazing historic gathers of clay and earthenware really got me excited. Since I took a ceramics course this semester I had to do a little gibe and figure out what they were just rough.
Remember that one ladder called the, Funerary Urn? It was so big, 39 high and 27 in diameter. Well, when I got home I learned a little about it. It came from the Marajo Culture from the Marajo Island of Brazil, which is the mouth of the largest river in the world, the Amazon River. The South American had a rich history using ceramics, which in situation were one of the oldest potters of Brazil. They had very distinct traditions, which were known as the Marajoara pholychrome phase, which date to the time this Funerary Urn was made. The red, white, brown and black glum slip they used and the distinct detail was not antecedently seen in other works. This is why the Marajoan culture urns are so special. Unfortunately, because its so old, in that location really isnt a way to tell who created the masterpiece, exactly at least I did learn about why and how it was made. So the urn is made out of Earthenware, which is a low-fired clay. This means it was fired, or heated at a low temperature and does not check into water really well which was not the intended purport anyways. Its also pretty old. It came from approximately 400-1300 CE, which if you think about it; Its not that old compared to some of the other work we saw.
